[Stupid. his ako ng his eh little girl nga. Edited.]
It's given that the number of broken marriages vis-a-vis broken families in the country is growing (I don't have the stats but based from the people I know, stories I've heard, marami talaga).
I rarely watch TV (for the lack of time). Last night,I chanced upon Coke's new commercial (Christmas Commercial). The premise of the ad made me a bit worried.
A little girl (probably 8 yrs. old) is waiting for her father to pick her up from her mother's place. The girl and her mom's family (parents and relatives) I believe are celebrating, maybe a Christmas reunion of sorts. When the father arrives, the little girl asks her father to get inside the house and join them. But the father answered something like, "Iba na ang sitwasyon ngayon." Then the mother approaches the father leading him inside the house and celebrate with them (with Coke of course).
Does the ad tell us that it's just okay to be in a broken-marriage as long as the friendship or good relationship was established between the parents?
While this is is a reality, I don't get the point of highlighting such predicament as something Okay. I don't know. Maybe because I really have high regard on the idea of marriage and building a family.
How about the child? Isn't it painful to see a young girl in that situation? There's a sense of longing and wanting to be with the father. And, can you imagine at a very young age, she has to understand that, "iba na ang sitwasyon ngayon." Too complicated.
I may appear to be overly reacting but I just don't like the idea. Or maybe I simply didn't get the point. Maybe that's their way of giving another view or definition of family (given the different problems encountered by couples).

Coke is over a hundred years old, it has the brand strength (and the money) to experiment with more unconventional stuff. (like the GTA ad)
Two: marami na ngang ganun. Nothing wrong with trying to appeal to them.
for "sundo", strengthening of family ties (through the help of Coke :D) ang theme. pa-emo efek na lang siguro kaya ginamit yung broken family sit. well, katulad ng mga telenovela sa tv, it helps for the ads (minsan) to portray some emotional chuvaness para maalala sila (at yung brand dapat) ng mga tao/end consumer.
tungkol naman sa pagkabahala mo, sa tingin ko naman walang masama sa pinakita nila. well, that's reality naman e katulad ng sinabi mo. and parang light nga yung ending e. although kitang-kita naman dun sa mga characters yung pain dulot ng situation nila, in the end, parang iba pa rin ("sarap") kapag magkakasalo-salo ang pamilya.
Potchipotch: Now, it make sense - the idea of strenghtening family ties. Maybe really, we've to confront the idea that this thing (broken marriage) happens. Yun lang mali lang agad iyong dating sa'kin. OA.
missingpoints: That's a better way of looking at it. It targets people in that situation to consider 're-defining the concept of family amidst a different situation. Iba lang agad iyong naisip ko, that it's okay to be in a broken marriage (iyon agad nacommunicate sa'kin)
Siyempre niresearch ko pa kung ano iyong GTA Ad.
^ I think it's more like "Coke doesn't care if you're a broken family; just keep drinking Coke."
Coke is the company that ran ads in Muslim nations during Ramadan (pwede naman daw kasing uminom pag gabi).
