Song and Drama

Back in college days, two of my friends in highschool and I had a weird trip. We went to different auditions for singing contest just for the heck of experiencing it.I think we only managed to sing in one of the auditions because there were just lots of singer-wanna-bes to be accommodated at all. Apparently, we didn't pass.

Of course, that tripping days were over. We're old now and we know it's not our thing. Not to mention, it isn't really the BEST way to make sure that our talents will be utilized.

But up until now I still encounter the question, "Bakit hindi ka sumali sa ganyan (whatever singing contest that's on-going). My usual answer is, "I'm old already and there are other ways to utilize the talent." Honestly, there were some moments that I really got interested to try it out. I even posted a survey of sorts here if I should audition for Pinoy Idol. It's probably due to the idea that I want to share the talent (yes cliche) but really you just want to utlize whatever it is that you have. Sayang eh. But then again, I don't need to join a singing to be able to sing. And reading Vince de Jesus's entry [via Gibbs Cadiz] reminded me of another reason why I decided not to audition. Just like what other game shows used to do (yes, parang sa "Game ka na ba"). Ayoko ng drama!

Kung may drama sa loob ng balita (remember that "Insider" tagline?), there's also drama sa likod ng musika. Ganun ang paepek ng mga singing contests ngayon eh. Bakit kasi kailangang ipangalandakan ang mga kaproblemahan at sakripisyo ng mga sumasali sa contest? Eh those things won't make them win naman. At least not for the auditions. Kasi kapag botohan na, ayan may paawa epek na magaganap niyan.

Read Vince's entry. Sapul sa banga!
