From time to time, we need to escape from our reality. We need to diversion in order to calm our selves especially if we feel like we’re in the brink of losing our sanity. I’m listing down some of my personal escapes and why these can help me jump off the real world to help me remain calm somehow. These may be helpful to some of you as well.
Theater
Theater-going (play watching) is a sweet and good escape. While it provides you picture of realities, it also gives you an avenue to divert your attention. It gives you other issues to ponder on (to at least help you forget a bit about your personal reality). It’s a bit expensive way of diversion though. But for sure, it is something very helpful.
So I found myself watching Insiang for the 2nd time last night; great catharsis indeed. Sometimes you have to see a play for another round (better if you watch the show with the alternates) to appreciate it better and be more critical.

Books
I’ve been spending much on books lately. But I’m happy about it. There’s a certain pleasure I find in getting cheap but good books. I now try hard to devote MORE time in reading books. I find certain serenity and comfort in reading. Not to mention the wisdom and information you get every time you get to read a book. If I were as voracious reader as before, it could’ve been better. But I’m trying to redeem those times I’ve wasted. Christmas break is just a few weeks ahead. I have time to lock myself up in my room and be intimate with my books. That is such a great relief and diversion.
Solitude/ Good Conversation
Solitude can be cathartic if that solitary confinement lets you imagine a happy future. However, good conversation is a better diversion as you learn a lot of things from other people. You can talk about anything – from shallow to deep. It’s a good diversion as you’re able to listen to other people’s stories and learn from them. It’s a good conversation because you get to see both the lighter and deeper side of life. It can help you either forget your stressing reality or can give you an alternative (positive way) of looking at your shitty existence.
Writing/Blogging
Obvious ba?
When you write, you’re able to liberate those hang-ups inside your heart and mind. You put into words those feelings (both abstract and concrete) within you. Writing is a therapeutic form of diversion. It’s an art – art therapy!
