Marimar

I went home a bit early yesterday to be able to catch the premier of Marimar (Of course, it's not the sole reason). I must admit that I was a high school girl who got fascinated of watching telenovelas back then. Honestly, I'm familiar with all the telenovelas where Thalia is the lead (I even have a copy of her album - in casette tape. But hey, she has a good Spanish version of "Journey to the Past").

Anyway, I was eager to watch not because I've plans of becoming an avid viewer of the show. I just want to see GMA7's execution of the show. Apparently, the only difference of the Marimar remake is its setting - Philippine Setting. But the story is pretty much the same -- as well as the conversation. What's the use of having a remake of a foreign show that was actually "tagalized"?
It's quite sad that we are way too far in terms of the quality of TV shows. And do you think adaptation like Marimar is helping the TV industry improve (in terms of quality)?
Napuna niyo ba ito sa Pinoy Marimar?
Ibalik, ibalik, tambalang --- Jestoni Alarcon at Rita Avila.

What's more disconcerting is that the Filipino theme song lacks the ooomph of the original Mexican sung by Thalia herself. Thalia is no match to Regine Velasquez, but the song in Filipino plainly just sucks.

Eto iyon, pilit sobra. "Marimar, lumaki sa tabing dagat." Minadali ang pagbikas para sumakto sa beat. But still off.

Ang pag-remake ng big TV stations sa mga pelikula at mga dating teleserye ay patunay lang na nauubusan na sila ng mga ideya. Kumopya na lang para mas madali :p
