It's my birthday, an excuse to write a quite personal and long entry. =)
Living is about creating a life the you want to have. It's about perennial dreaming and struggling. To stop dreaming means welcoming death. We often find ourselves depressed when we're confronted of the feeling that we're way beyond the fulfillment of our dreams. But every depression, pain, and hatred are always withered away by happy occurrences.
When we were younger, most of us were very passionate and very positive about achieving our dreams. Being carefree young people, we always thought that dreams are just so easy to achieve (anything is possible). As we get older, we find ourselves frustrated and sometimes unhappy to find out that achievement of goals isn't that easy. Consequently, we feel unhappy and end up jaded.
However, there's always something to appreciate in life. With my twenty-four years of existence, I've realized that nothing is really impossible. It's a cliche but really, if you are passionate and you work hard, you can be what you want to be (of course with some help from other people).
> I wanted to be active in a political campaign. In 2003, I was so lucky that my practicum professor handed me a letter from Aksyon Demokratiko (asking for possible practicum trainee). It was so meant for me. Imagine that other classmates were still looking for office to have their OJT but my prof gave the letter to me instead. (meant to happen).
With that experience, I've become active not just in a political campaign but as well as other socio-political/socio-civic activities. I've met a lot of interesting people from whom I've learned a lot of things (while some of them are still with me now as friends).
> I've worked in an NGO. Because of my connections during the political campaign, I was able to work for a Human Rights Organization. There, I was able to fulfill my plan of working for an organization with a "decent/noble cause." I've met a lot of people (mostly from left) from whom I've gathered different insights on politics and various issues.
From that experience, I've realized that I cannot live a life fully devoted to an organization. Yes, while you've advocacies and you are passionate to help, you still have a responsibility to yourself. That is to be able to make a better living out of a better paying job. You can always be involved in socio-civic and even socio-political activities while you try to nurture your self.
> I'm really interested in politics & communication (public relations, research, & marketing), and the arts. I feel so successful when I was able to work as a PR Writer/Accounts Assistant. Even if the experience was too short, I believe it was a good training ground.
> I'm now teaching. Meeting people like Jun Pedro, Nikki Briones, Kate Mirandilla (young and passionate professors)inspired (and challenged) me to become an agent of change (yeah, a teacher). I'm way beyond them (as in way, way beyond)but I'm happy that I'm already here and challenging myself to be better (I can never be at par with them though).
> My current work as a PR & Research person in an IT company gives me more exposures to politics and communication (creative work). Things I love to do.
I never run out of things I want to do and experience.
Continue teaching... More exposure in the world of PR and Research.. Spend more time with family and friends... Be more active in socio-civic activities (calling activity partners!)... Try out a career in theater (am I too old for this?)... Meet more interesting people who've got wisdom to share... Study again (yeah, yeah)... Travel to another country or other local destination (Bangkok, anyone?)...
Have a business (established rackets perhaps)... Have my first car, first house, first million, and first boyfriend? Well who knows? Malay ninyo naman manalo ako sa lotto. Hindi lang isnag milyon iyon. Makakabili na ako ng bahay at kotse, sama mo na pati na ng lalaki (Of course, I'm kidding). =)
Life is definitely unpredictable. Often times we cannot cope with the timelines we've set for ourselves. But what is important is that we never run out of things we want to accomplish. It is important that we never run out of dreams to fulfill.
In life, we need to be analytical in setting our priorities in order to achieve all these dreams and wants. It also requires us to be sensitive in knowing the right time to take-off. We should also be open to the possibility of falling. Anyway, we can always recuperate as our dreams and loved ones are here to motivate us.
Getting old is not something we've to fear. It is an opportunity for us to grow and be more substantial. As a result, we can be essential to this world and to the human kind.
My 24th year on earth is simply about continuing a life measured in love. It's the only source of true happiness amidst the feeling of emptiness caused by failures.
It's actually not the "Happy Birthday Song" I wish to hear for my birthday but "Seasons of Love." To do those who remembered, I'm absolutely grateful.

hey hey, heypi birthday! ^_^v peace mare!)... haaayzzz... naalala ko ang "the alchemist": just continue to the learn the language of the world and fulfill your personal legend. 'hop that makes sense. apir mare! ^_^v
Salamat ng marami my friend. Hay, sadness wala talagang bumati sa akin sa ganyang manner. May award pa naman sana akong ibibigay. So talagang the alchemist ha? :) Salamat ulit. At huwag mong isiping pinahamak mo ko dahil napunta ko sa Rebisco (slight lang actually, hehehe). No, oks lang iyon. Ako naman iyong taong hindi nagreregret. I always try to look for the gains and learnings (kahit konti) in every experience. There's no reason to regret, it was a choice that I made. :) And am grateful for that experience, too. Kahit may sablay :P
I just want to share this song. Wala lang, weird attack:)
Haberdey!
Gracias, seƱor!
Happy 24th birtday. I chanced upon your blog entry where you mentioned my name. Flattering indeed, thank you very much. And now that you are a teacher yourself, being remembered as one in a good way by a former student truly is heartwarming.
I am majoring in PR and crisis management for my PhD degree now. We can talk PR, too. Drop me a line if you like.
All the best.
-Kate Mirandilla

Belated Happy Birthday!
I also chanced upon your entry mentioning my name, and I'd just like to let you know that I found that inspiring. It's been a couple of years since I last taught, and I've been writing my dissertation in seclusion - and reading your message reminded me why I'm away doing my Ph.D. - your blog entry allowed me to remember being in my mid-twenties and thinking of passionately pursuing this path - sometimes in the drudgery of daily routine, I need to be reminded and inspired, and your email did just that.
Thank you.
Good luck with your teaching!
Nikki Briones

Good luck also. Hope you can teach again and continue inspiring people.
