High School Musical

Watched the staging of High School Musical last Sunday. I expected that majority of HSM Fan to come from the teens but surprisingly it has a lot of young kid fans. This is probably because of the catchy good songs. Anyone can easily sing along and memorize the songs. In fact, before the show started, the kids were actually singing along.

Of course, HSM may not be as grand as other musicals but it's good enough to gather fans. Kids are prepared to see what they might experience in the future. Meanwhile, teens can easily relate with HSM because of their current experiences. Adults on the other hand may feel nostalgic (been there, done that thingy).

Blue Rep's staging of HSM was relatively OK. But I think its staging of Footloose back 2003 (not the one with JR and Iya) was better. The staging appealed like a culminating production for a workshop (ala recital). Because of this, I think, the tickets were highly priced (IMHO).

But the good thing about the staging of HSM is the fact that Blue Rep tried to make it interactive - audience participation was encouraged (aisles were utilized). I really find it a great idea. The problem though was the NR and boring audience. Sadly, very few were open to interacting. Most of the audience were too lazy to cheer (and even clap) during the finale (I don't know if it has something to do with the time since I watched the morning staging). While my feet were already stamping to the beat and my hands were clapping to the tune (and I was tempted to stand up and sing along, out load, "We're all in this together"), others were super NR.

Oh, and I think it could've been better if it was held not at SM Cinema (parang magulo).
