The basic reason in getting a consultant is the idea that no one in the company is that much capable or expert in the field to provide insights. Or it’s also possible that you need someone to give you an independent (out-of-the-box) perspective.
You hire consultant to acquire insights that may be different from yours. The aim is to find the flaws in your concept and come up with a better one. If a consultant attacks your idea or provides you with a totally different perspective, it doesn’t mean that they’re personally attacking you.
You have to be open minded. In the first place, you hired a consultant to act as your critique. To develop a concept means challenging the already presented ideas – presentation of arguments and counter arguments.
Be more afraid if the consultant simply agrees on what you presented. The often he/she says yes to your ideas may not mean always mean you have good insights. You shouldn’t feel happy when he/she accepts everything as good. Something’s wrong with that.
You may be paying the wrong person. Poor you, you’re wasting your money that should have been given somewhere better.
