A friend and I were talking about Dingdong Dantes's venture as Bench's newest underwear model. We were walking our way to EDSA from Trinoma North Avenue when we noticed another Bench billboard and got reminded of Dingdong's.
Friend: Nakita mo iyong bagong billboard ni Dingdong?
Me: Ay oo. Iyong sa Bench. Masagawa mare.
Friend: Di ba crush na crush mo iyon?
Me: Dati iyon nung hindi pa siya nagpapakita ng laman.
Friend: Ang sagwa no?
Me: Oo kaya. Parang bagay na bagay ang "Dingdong".
Honestly, when I saw Dingdong's billboard (the one along Balintawak), I couldn't help but to look back and stare (oh, huwag mag-isip ng bastos). Nagpupush-up siya sa litrato.. But the thing is, the underwear is too fit and his "thingie" is too obvious. Sagwa. To quote my friend, "Parang ready to attack ang dating!"
Seriously, in conceptualizing an underwear ad, what's the main goal? Probably, it has to communicate comfort and style. Sige, sexy or macho na rin. Pero parang hindi ganun iyong kay Dingdong. Pero iba talaga iyong masagwa, promise. Wow Bird! Yun na lang talaga ang masasabi ko.

Well assuming na hindi for Ben Chan's benefit lang ang mga photo shoot na ganun, I'd say that Bench isn't really advertising their underwear as much as they're reinforcing an image. They want to be known as a sexy company that makes sexy clothes.
Aspirational baga.
