Because she doesn't know how to say "No" (Part I)

A quest to solving a suspected "modus operandi"

Almost everyday I receive text messages offering cash loans and even advisory that I have to claim a certain privilege card. All of these messages are sent using regular mobile phone numbers. Actually, everyone at the office who availed post-paid plan receives theses messagese (most likely, our numbers were traced of sorts). Of course, none of us consider the text seriously (the messages just irritate us).

Similarly, anyone who has applied for a credit ard via phone could also be receiving phone calls from sales representatives offering you various services (from credit card to cash loans and even privilege cards).

A friend who's not used to saying no to offers (whatever kind for that matter because she hates the feeling of rejection) said yes in availing a privilege card package. It's a package because it includes four different cards.

According to the sales representative, the first card entitles the purchaser a 1,000 peso per day insurance in case he/she gets hospitalized. The 2nd and 3rd card may be used by any of the purchaser's relatives. They will be entitled to a 50% discount for all services in any hospitals . The 4th card entitles the owner free towing service.

My friend got interested to avail the package because: (1) She got enticed with thte 1,000 peso per day insurance - may pagkakataon kasing naoospital din siya and (2) Her grandfather is usually in-and-out of the hospital. So she said yes to the sales representative but she made sure that she understood everything that the SR told her.

She didn't sign any application form. Everything happened over the phone. Upon receiving the package, the only thing she had to sign was a notice that she received the package complete and in good condition. That's it.

When she was browsing through the manual of the package, to her suprise everything that the sales representative mentioned to her about the privileges for the 2nd and 3rd card aren't true.

1) It's not 50% of but 10-50% off
2) And not in all hospitals but: Optal Clinics and Derma Clinic

Of course, she freaked out.

[Just wait for the Part Two]
