Fiddler on the Roof

If you're looking for an entertaining and educational treat, I think "Fiddler on the Roof" is a good musical to watch. You'll definitely learn a lot about history and culture.
  • How tradition plays a role in the life of the Jews
  • How it puts people in dilemma as the modern society arises
  • The oppression and poverty during Czarist Russia
  • Jews and their concept of marriage (match-making)
You'll also find out how:
  • A match-made relationship can possibly develop to real love
  • Heart resists and fights for what it really desires
I think it’s a good musical to watch for a Sociology Class (as it discusses tradition and gender roles).

Familiar songs in the musical include "If I were a rich man" and "Sunrise, Sunset." I've watched the movie adaptation (1971 film) and really liked it. Hence, I want to see how it's going to be performed on stage (which is actually the original form).

If you plan to watch, you just have to prepare for a quite long show (2hrs & 45 minutes I think + 15 minutes intermission).

The local staging of "Fiddler on the Roof" is produced by Repertory Philippines. It’s more interesting to watch because of its cast and the orchestra playing (Manila Symphony).

Fiddler on the Roof is on its last 2 weekends of staging. For ticket inquiries, check Ticketworld or Repertory Philippines.
