Be it Eula Valdez or K Brosas, Zsazsa Zaturnnah Ze Muzikal is a winner (Victoria). Of course, the two actresses had different approach (attack) on the play. But one thing's for sure. Whichever show you've watched, it was worth watching (definitely hilarious).
K as ZZZ: Laugh-out-loud
As I've said in the earlier posts about ZZZ, K Brosas is an epitome of a "babaeng bakla." Therefore, it's not a wonder that K's performance was really a hit. She was able to make the material more hilarious with her priceless ad-libs. Apparently, her attack was to take your breath away by laughing-out-loud. Nar (Didi) and K really clicked well on stage making the show wittier and funnier.
She made the play entertaining enough to make you hold on your seats and wait for another priceless ad-lib. It was like watching a "Comedy Bar" show that's more serious (because of the theme). For example, during her show, she was still able to gain attention even if the lights were on for the Amazonistas during the "Transmorfication, Execute (ah)." Her ad-libs (together with Nar's) caught audience attention. She was able to connect with the Amazonista's grand production number. I guess this is something that Eula's performance lacked (todo hirit).
To sum up: K was simply K during her performance. (Not that there's something bad about it. But that's the best description I can give).
Eula as ZZZ: Funny and Touching
What sets Eula's performance different from K's is the fact that Eula is a good actress. Her performance may not be as funny as that of K (because it had less ad-libs and it lacked K's priceless hirits), but the connection with the audience remained. Plus, a balance between fun and drama was apparent. The scene where ZZZ was talking to her dead father was so touching. Although it had some funny ad-libs, you can feel the sincerity of reaching out to her dead father. Eula knows how to sing at act from the heart (That's why I almost cried). This time, this is something K's performance lacked.
To sum up: Eula was not Eula when she performed. She was able to take Ada's persona while playing as ZZZ. Alam mong si Ada pa rin si Zsazsa although Babae na ang katawan niya.
The Real Winner
Among the performers, I think, Nar Cabico (Didi) deserves an award. In both performances I've watched, he's really a winner.
"Hey, hey... Heypi Birthday!"
"Dodong, to the left, to the left."
Zsazsa Zaturnnah is not just about fun. It tells us that no one is invincible from falling in love. Regardless if you're gay, lesbian, heterosexual, pretty, ugly, nerdy, hunk, intelligent, a bit slow, you're vulnerable to love. In the same manner that it's not impossible for a good looking guy to fall for a gay, for a lesbian to find a life-long partner, for a not-so-pretty or even ugly lady to end up with a hunk and good looking guy, for a super intelligent person to fall for an ordinary girl or guy, etc. We can never explain why these seemingly impossible things can happen. And, do we actually need to explain them?
Ika nga ni Dodong, "Huwag mo akong tanungin kung bakit, bobo ako diyan."
