Once in a while, we meet people who are quite different from the normal people we bump into everyday - they see things other people (us sometimes included) don't notice(oh, I'm not talking about those with sixth sense). They see another aspect that is significant in some things we might just find common.
If I were to design a t-shirt, it will contain the following:
"Geeks! Unite for a Geek Attack!"
Came up with this because of recent 'geek attack' I've encountered.
Officemate: "Lalah, meron akong picture niyang T-shirt mo." (I was wearing a Linayag shirt from Kultura with a "Hingutuhan" painting.)
I got a bit confused with his statement. Actually, I didn't know how to react. He was so enthusiastic tos howand even approached my work area to show the picture in his cellphone. Apparently, he took a picture of the shirt I was wearing when he visited "SM Kultura."
You may be wondering why I consider it as a 'geek attack.'
Officemate: "Do you know Joey Ayala? His drummer painted that design (referring to Noe Tiu, I think).
Impressive! He actually knows the painter of that design on my shirt.
Obviously, 'geek attacks' are avenues to learning new things. These experiences are means for us to realize that we've been missing a lot and that we need to re-assess ourselves. Para silang isang malaking karatula na nagsasabing, "Hoy, magbasa-basa ka naman ng lumawak ang kaalaman mo." Aside from that, 'geek attacks' help us realize the importance of looking (and even appreciating) at some things in a different perspective.
I like that shirt because I find the design interesting. It depicts Filipino culture. I bought it to express that I'm proud to be Pinoy. The interest stops there. Unlike with my officemate, he even researched about the design.
In life, appreciating and accepting things shouldn't end only through looking at the evident attributes. Further understanding of their origins and rationale is needed.

He could've skipped the picture reference altogether and just told you about the painter. I mean, that's what I would've done.
Hmmm... It's probably because we're not close (not vibes even)- we're from different departments - and he didn't know how to start the conversation. Kaya medyo off ang approach :)
