Friend!!!

It seems that the term "friend" is one of the most commonly misused terms among Filipinos. Apparently, we find it convenient to use the term to refer to almost all the people in our circle (I'm also guilty of this occasionally). It's also possible that we're just to afraid to offend others if we try to distinguish friends from acquaintances or activity partners

There's a fine line between close friends and friends; friends and activity partners; and friends and acquaintances. By qualifying the level of friendship and type of relationship (e.g. activity partners, acquaintances), we're able to give justice to our relationships to special people - our friends. We're able to distinguish the significance of these people in our lives.

Honestly, Friendster has made the concept of friendship a bit shallow. I must admit that I'm guilty of using Friendster to get in touch not just with friends but as well as with activity partners and acquaintances. Oh well, it can never gauge the friendship I have with you anyway. But we should keep in mind that it is just a simple Networking Site. Not because you're in my network, we've already shared deep personals and sincere concern for each other. We may have shared some common activities together but that's it.

Using the terms "sorry" and "thank you," requires certain honesty and sincerity. Similarly, we must be cautious in introducing someone as our friend. These terms are all
expressions of feelings than mere automatic responses.

Declaring or labeling someone as your friend is recognizing that person's relevance in your life. More than that, it's also a commitment of sorts.
