When we were younger, it seems too easy to answer the question, "What do you want in life?" Then, we were a bit simple (however full of positive outlook and ambitions). Life flows smoothly. We're a little carefree and almost always happy. We were quite easy to satisfy.
But as we grow up, things change. We realize that such question may be the most difficult we'll ever ecounter. It's not because we don't know what we want to do but there are things that hurdle us from doing what we really want (or becoming what we aspire for). It is also possible that we are faced with so many options that complicate things we couldn't just choose which to prioritize. Often we are jaded and challenged. We end up somewhere that wouldn't actually help in materializing our wants. It's either a wrong decision or a forced choice.
It's easy to tell anyone to be patient and just try to do the best in every endeavour (be it a passion or just a forced decision) as the right time will come to achieve the dreams that one wants. However, a person has the less chances of becoming good in something one has never aspired for or imagined as there's less passion.
For example, if we're in a work simply because we need money (and not become dependendent and bum at home), there's a tendency for us to expedite decisions just to make money and avoid stagnation. While we try to exert our best effort, we just find ourselves unhappy and not contended to fulfill such duty. Therefore, there's a feeling that we aren't able to maximize our lives.
Of course, these things should always be considered as learning experiences. From these, we will be able to decipher how we will be able to get hold of our goals and become what we really want. However, we should be wary that prolonging such situation may lead us to just accepting things as they are and not challenging oneself to fly. We cannot forever live in mediocrity.
