Cover Girl

Working for a PR firm exposes you to a lot of things.... The best, good, bad, and WORST!!!

As a freelance PR writer, I get to cover all sorts of events (hence, I'm a cover girl) -- corporate social responsibility activities, product-launchings, fashion shows, beauty pageants and a lot more. Sometimes, I also have to take pictures during these events (intended for news releases).

As a PR practitioner, you also have to be prepared for totally unexpectedm tasks during the event. Yesterday was a totally different experience. I was supposed to cover Women's Journal Search for Miss Cover Girl 2006. Of course, it's not that formal event as it was just the pre-pageant/eliminations of sorts. Well, I thought of wearing something ragged but decided to wear a little smart casual attire. Good enough, I decided to go there on smart-casual attire.

One, I was asked to be among the judges of the contest. Given that our client who sponsored the show wasn't there, I became their representative. Wow! What a feeling! It was as if I am a beauty queen!

But aside from judging, I had to endorse their product to the public! I had to go up to the stage and advertise our client's product. It was really hard to be endorsing something that you don't really use. I was asked to endorse a beauty product which I don't use and I don't plan to use at all.

I really had to lie. The host told me, "I assume you're using the product because you've got a beautiful glowing face." Hmm... I was forced to say yes. (Ganito rin kaya nag nararamdaman ng mga artista tulad ni Kris Aquino na alangang naglalaba gamit ang white cat at nag-memakeup gamit ang San-San. Oh well, they're paid to do that. Di katulad sa'kin, wala lang akong choice at walang bayad. I was there to cover -take pictures- write a press release.)

The funny thing about that lie is a double lie of sorts. It's really weird because the other sponsor to the event (also a beauty cream) is what I actually use to clean my face.

That’s PR and Advertising Life! :-)

But then again, this glowing face shouldn't be attributed to any beauty product. Well, it's just naturally glowing. ;P

The Worst: To Endorse a Beauty Product which I don't use to the public of Robinson's Metro East

The Best: To bring home a lot of gift-packs because of judging :-)

P.S.

I'll be posting some pictures from the pageant soon. All for your viewing pleasure :-)
