For people whose lives have been touched by Raul Roco, there's one common thing that we share -- believing that there's always hope. During the campaign, he promised to bring "Bagong Pilipinas" (New Philippines).
There's someone who promises to continue this journey for "A New Philippines." I found out from a friend's blog that the widow of Roco will be running for a senate seat in 2007 (if there's an electiono). I knew of that information even before it was published but didn't really take it seriously.
But now that Sonia Roco has confirmed her plans (through Phil Star's interview), I guess I've to think and be serious about it. Yes, if there's one person who knows almost everything about RSR -- that's his wife. It's unquestionable that she was also touched by RSR's philosophy. No wonder that if she runs for public office, her campaign and positions would be guided by RSR's philosophy considering the reason that she's running for public office is to continue RSR's let's say "unfinished business" on earth.
I don't know exactly what to feel. I trust SMR -- she's equally intelligent (maybe even more intelligent) and good like RSR. She may have witnessed how his husband's political life and learned from it but I'm not sure if she can manage a political life (even if she was a student leader).
I am always irritated, pissed off with people who let their wives run for public office if ever their term ends (just so to continue ruling). Yet, Sonia Roco's reason for running is different from theirs. The situation even is totally different. Roco's dead and has no position to protect. What he has left is a promise and a vision to achieve...
I'll vote for her, I'm certain of that. What I'm not sure about is if I could give the same effort as what I've given during RSR's campaign. I still don't know.
